Replacing windshield wiper blades?

Is there any specific indication that the ones from years ago that were simple to change performed badly? It seems that the changing procedure has matured into a very complex thing, anyone else thing so also?
Replacing windshield wiper blades?
Yeah, its jacked up, but all ANCO wiper blades have detailed instructions on how to install them. they are sold at almost all major parts stores.

1987 Honda Accord LXi price negotiable - $1200

Car is in good shape with lots of features. Automatic, Sun Roof, Power windows, Power locks, Cruise Control, Heater, AC, rear seat folds down and stock aluminum alloy wheels. Car has a clean title and i've owned it a little over a year. I mostly drove it to work and school and it easily gets 30 miles a gallon. It has 207XXX miles and has been well maintained. I recently put a new alternator in, changed the oil, changed wiper blades, and check the brakes which looked good. About three months ago i did spark plugs and air filter. I installed the pioneer cd deck and sony 3 way speakers all around. I bought two new tires last winter and two this spring so they all match and are in great shape. I also had it aligned when i bought the last two of tires. It passed smog on the 18th of november and runs great.

Call me anytime and please leave a vmail

Come out and test drive

Price is negotiable

Should i buy this honda?
It looks like a decent car overall. I would take the time to double check all the options and make sure they are working. Check for a spare tire, jack, and lug wrench that fits the wheels as well as a wheel lock key (if applicable). Personally, I would offer $800 and use the excess mileage as the reason for your lower offered amount, however it's up to you and your budget. Good luck and I hope this helps.
Should i buy this honda?
it seems like a good car, the mileage is kinda high even for a honda but the car will last you a lot longer if you maintain it correctly.. just make sure the cars had its timing belt changed recently, due remember though a 1200 car will get you from point a to point B thats about it..
If you need a car it sounds like a good deal. You should test drive first to make sure that you like it.
it sounds great. hondas are reliable and fuel efficient. it seems well outfitted too - Sony speakers!, alloy wheels pioneer cd deck. By the way what possessed you to support mccain?
if the alternator was recently replaced it's probably because it when bad, and when stiff like that happens, more is to come, plus that price is way to high for the miles on it

Automotive Jobs For 15 Year Old?

Im 15, and Ill be 16 In June. I need to get a job and start saving for a car. I want to learn more about cars, but my school doesn't have a automotive program anymore. So I figured I could maybe make money, and learn about cars at the same time. I was thinking about AutoZone or something because I had a relative who worked there and basically said if you can change wiper blades, headlights, and use a computer your good. But I dont know if this is true or not, also I dont know how old you have to be. But anyway ya, If anyone knows any places that hire 15 year olds, and have to do with Automotive please let me know. I dont care if its oil shop, tire shop, muffler, cleaning oil off the floor I dont care. As long as theres money, and car stuff involved. Thanks for reading this.
Automotive Jobs For 15 Year Old?
You could try your local garages for some part time clean up, or a used car lot, most places need you to be 16 and are resrtricted on how many hours you can get. Ask your school counselor they may have papers to fill out to get permision to work. Also they may have a few good leads for you. Best bet is to ask everyone everywhere.
Automotive Jobs For 15 Year Old?
well u could try car shops i need a good job to does any one no of a job for a 15 year old if to let me no at tajwar360@yahoo.com thx

autozone or NAPA or another place like that would be a great place to learn about cars and stuff, while making money. go down to your local NAPA or autozone and ask if they have any positions for you to start in. if they do, then great, if not, keep looking. good luck.
i don't know where you are from. even if you are 5,you can get an opportunity learn it in india, but now a days it has been classified as child labour so you do not get paid.even when get paid i doubt if would be enough to buy a spark plug, let alone a car
Wash cars

Detail (clean inside) cars
my little brother started work in nationwide autocentre at 15 he has been there a year and loves it go to your local garage and ask them if they want a newbie
Heeeeeyyyyy!!! Im 15 too but i wont be 16 till next year but email me when you find a job because i have that same problem. They only have automotive classes at the continuation highschool around here but im interested in cars, not Nedicine and all that stuff.
try working at an oil and lube place.
Check local car dealers.
y do u wnt to do a job.

by d way u can try for a sales executive.
you can apply for an OJT in any car dealer as an apprentice.
Try some shops in your area, we can hire 15 year olds here to change oil, then in years they can learn alot. Try some national chain shops in your area and see if they are hiring lube techs. Good luck
If you are really interested in working at AutoZone, go into the store and ask to speak to the manager. Explain you goals to him(her). The worst they can say is you are too young come back later, HOWEVER they may give you the chance. If it doesn't work out, try some used car lots. you may be able to start washing cars and work your way up and as you work there you may get a better deal on a car.
sounds rediculous, but how about a car wash. you do learn minor mechanics and stuff so try that.
w2ash cars in a repairshop fo spending money and lear by watching good mechs work on cars

Where can i get a job (mechanic)?

Im 16 and im looking for a part time job from 3pm to whenever, like closing time. I like working on cars, but i dont know everything about them yet, i could do basic stuff like change tires repair tires change wiper blades test batteries change batteries change oil /fluids etc. Where can i work at 16? Maybe a quick lube? I was looking at sears auto center but i gotta be 18 and have a drivers license. BTW i dont have a license either
Where can i get a job (mechanic)?
Try repair shops. You are wise to become a mechanic as there is always work.
Where can i get a job (mechanic)?
I just found a good business that didn't cost me anything to start if you are interested, do you can do it full time or part time and still make money but you do have to put word out there that this is what you are looking for.... also you can apply for wal-mart, they may be hiring, but then again you will need a license for that. But this business doesnt require any money out of pocket and you can make money pretty quickly if you have plenty of people that you know who will sign up under you and you can even do this kind of work at 16 years of age, it doesn't matter.. let me know and ill send ya the link.

Need some help changing my windshield wipers?

i got a 2006 nissan maxiam a few months back and the guy i bought it from lost the owners manual so i don't know how to change the windshield wipers. i've looked online for info and they say pull the release tab, but when i push the tab, i can't get the blade out

thanks for you time
Need some help changing my windshield wipers?
Depends on whether you are trying to replace the entire wiper assembly or just the rubber blade itself.

Many wiper arms have a hook at the end and you push the wiper toward the base of the wiper arm instead of pulling away from it.

To get just the rubber blade out I normally use pliers to bend one of the metal tabs on either side of the blade, at the end of the blade closest to the base of the arm, and slide the support band out. The blade will almost fall out without either one of the support bands. Then you slide the replacement back in.

The easiest was is to go to Autozone, Advance Auto, etc and they'll change them for you for free.
Need some help changing my windshield wipers?
make it easy on yourself, get a tin snips or a wire cutters and cut off the old ones (do not cut the pole it sits on)

The wipers pull straight off of the post (that is 90 degrees from the wiper arm)

I once bent the arm trying to remove the wiper... look at the new wiper and see the center hole... that is the separation point.

cut it off and save yourself time

the new one snaps right back on that pole (it is about an inch or so long)

  • What's my best bet?

I'm planning on buying a Saturn Vue in the next few weeks...

(please don't try to pressure me into getting another car, I've done research and this car is the best for me)

    I have 2 choices:

a 2003 with 32,135 miles - FWD - V6 for $12,900 and the dealership will throw in a 5 year/100,000mi warranty for $2,000 plus free oil changes, wiper blades and inspections for 2 years

    or a 2006 with 29,343mi - 4 cyl. - FWD for $13,895

the 2003 seems like a good bet with the extended warranty, but I'd like some extra input
    What's my best bet?
A Saturn Vue is an excellent choice. I own one that has been truly a joy to drive and completely trouble-free. However, I'd go with the 2006 over the 2003. The following are the basis for my decision:

First and foremost, the 2006 sounds like a better deal than the 2003. Double check Kelley Blue Book by entering their features/options.

Second, extended warranties lock you into using the dealer (and often have exclusions). $2,000 sounds like an inflated price. Also, what is its deductible? If you really want an extended warranty, you should be able to buy an independent, 3rd-party for the 2006.

Third, my 2004 Saturn Vue was recalled for its rear suspension. GM has made several refinements between the 2003 and the redesigned 2006 Saturn Vue. Making an great SUV even better.

Good luck with your decision, I hope this helps.
    What's my best bet?
Edmunds.com was a big help in the decision making! Thanks!

I would go with the 2003. For a car 3 years newer than your other option, but to be %26quot;only%26quot; a $1,000 more seems like the best deal. Go with the 2003.
Using the price guides at Edmunds.com, which I often use in my work, the 2006 is the better deal pricewise. They are offering it to you for less than the private seller price. I'd guess the high mileage has made it hard to sell. With the 2006, In two years you'll have a car that is likely to need fewer repairs than a car that is then six years old. Also Edmunds' users give the 2006 a higher rating.

It wasn't clear whether the extended warranty on the 2003 was %26quot;free%26quot; (nothing's free) or whether it would cost $2000. If it's the latter, then the pricing on the 2003 is not very attractive at all in my view.

Some people have a strong preference for a V6 over a 4 cyl. You'd want to weigh that, or perhaps keep looking.

    Good luck.

    I have timed wiper blades?

if i set the time for a few seconds when stopped do the wipers move faster because of engine speed change the wiper speed
    I have timed wiper blades?
If you have rain sensing wipers it will move faster as you drive because more water hits the window. Other than that it should go with how you set it.
    I have timed wiper blades?
No, the wipers are moved by an electric motor which is not connected to the engine in any way.

What kind of services can I do on my Nissan?

Here is what I already have:

Oil Change, Tire Rotation, New Wiper Blades, Front end wheel alignment, New air filter.

What else can I do on my car?
What kind of services can I do on my Nissan?
Depends what it needs and who's doing it. If you mean what can YOU do personally, well, if you have the desire, anything. I have rebuilt a DOHC V8 engine from the ground up in my garage with a $250 set of craftsman hand tools and a torque wrench, but have been unable to rebuild my brake calipers myself because of the amount of specialized tools required, as sad as that sounds. Otherwise, basic services would be a tune up, timing belt/water pump, head lights, taillights, brakes, shocks/struts (with a spring compressor for struts), greasing the chassis bushings and such...thermostat, coolant flush and fill, changing the transmission fluid. There's a lot you can do, and almost nothing that can't be done at home with basic hand tools and just a little work.

    Oldsmobile repair question?

Ok, I own an 85' Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. It needs some work. Here is a list of things that it needs:

-Fix a leak in the transmission

-A New muffler and exhaust pipe

    -A Tune-up

    -An oil change

    -Wiper blades

I'm taking it to a mechanic for everything because I don't wanna mess anything else. I need to know how much this is all going to cost before I go so I have the money. Preferably would like an actual mechanic to answer this question but anyone who knows could give me their input too.

I need a really accurate quote or a really accurate ballpark quote, including costs of labor and all that. Thanks!
    Oldsmobile repair question?
    They'll want to do a transmission overhaul....est $250.00 (min.)

New muffler and exhaust....est $175.00 (min.)

    Tune up....$150.00

    Oil Change....$29.00

    Wiper Blades (2)....$6.00/ea.

    Total Estimate: $726.00

    **Now, we all know what happens when we are at the shop or at home waiting for the call...mechanic comes in (or calls us at home), worried look on his face and exclaims %26quot;Mr. Carowner, got some bad news for ya...while we were in there we found you're gonna need....(whatever)....%26quot;

    add $500.00 to original estimate.

I could be way off depending on where you are located and who you take it to so, let's see what others come up with.
    Oldsmobile repair question?
Prices will vary of course. You are looking at shop labor between $68 and hour and up depending on where you take it. The only repair that might shock you is the transmission leak. You didnt state if it was shifting rough or just possibly a bad gasket. This alone could run several hundred to a couple thousand for a new or rebuilt transmission. Muffler and exhaust about $349 parts an labor, tune up usually starts at $79 and up, oil change is about $19 and up, wiper blades are around $15 and you can put those on yourself to save on a labor charge. Try to get quotes on the phone first or take it in for an estimate before dropping it off to get worked on. Get a ballpark on price or else you could end up with a very large hole in your wallet.
Best suggestion, get an estimate before committing. You might also want to have different things worked on at different shops.

The muffler shops might give you a better deal on the exhaust work.

Do the wiper blades yourself (I dont care who you are)...
There is NO way to get a %26quot;real accurate quote%26quot; without someone looking at and properly diagnosing the vehicle. Example: you have a transmission fluid leak, Is it coming from the front pump area? In that case the transmission would have to be removed to do the repair. Or is it a transmission output shaft seal that is leaking? A transmission cooler line? Big difference in parts but there is an even greater difference between each job in the labor time each takes. New muffler and exhaust pipe. Muffler and the pipe to the back or from the exhaust manifolds back?

Tune-up: does it need spark plugs only or cap %26amp; wires and spark plugs? There are two many variables!!
Can't say about the transmission. the rest aren't too bad.

    Wipers 10-15

tune up 100 more or less

    oil 15-25

    muffler and pipe 200-300
if i were you i would call around and get the lowest price.it depends on where the leak is,i mean if its the front seal, then your looking at some bucks.

  • How do I keep my car's windshield grease/oil free ?

my car's windshield seems to have a thin film of something on it so when it rains at night and I put on the wipers I can hardly see as the wipers seem to spread the film more. I use windscreen cleaning solution and all kinds of glass cleaners and nothing has worked. Even changed the wiper blades twice over 6 months.

use a grease remover(like %26quot;simple green%26quot;) and then glass cleaner... also if it is an older car go visit your local Napa Store and try %26quot;innovision%26quot; wiper blades. They are awesome. Some older cars wiper arms loose tension and so the innovisions are designed to make tighter contact with windshield....
It might be your washer fluid that is the issue. My dad used a can of Coca Cola after visiting the beach to remove the film!

Anyway, I use a mixture of dishsoap and alcohol, which is used in eye glass cleaner. Most all commercial products use alcohol in their products as well. At the very least, clean your glass with straight alcohol to break down the film and then use Rain X which does indeed work well and for a long period of time.

    Good luck.
yeah, Rain-X is magical stuff. God bless the inventor of it. One time, my windshield wiper motor stopped working so I couldn't use the wipers. I went and bought Rain-X and wiped it on kind of heavy. After that, I didn't even need to repair the wiper motor, the Rain-X was that good. Though, I must say I don't recommend/endorse you to do the same thing. Maybe I was just lucky....I think so. I only did it because I didn't have the time or money to repair the motor.

Why do my windscreen wipers make an awful noise! ?

Just bought a second hand 1999 Primera and the wiper on the drivers side makes an awfully loud sqeak/screech!

I've changed the wiper blade three times (new ones), the glass appears totally clean (no grease or smears). No apparent flaw in the screen either.

Please tell me how to sort this. Mike
Why do my windscreen wipers make an awful noise! ?
this is caused by the blade not turning over at the end of a sweep. You need to twist the wiper arm slightly with an adjustable spanner while supporting the arm with another adjustable to avoid putting strain on the wiper motor rack.
Why do my windscreen wipers make an awful noise! ?
Even if your windshield is clean, if it hasn't been maintained, then it still has microscopic nicks and scratches in it from dust, etc. in the wind hitting it repeatedly. Run your hand over the glass. If your hand sort of %26quot;clings%26quot; to the glass and you have a hard time moving your hand across it, then you need to use a product called %26quot;Rain-X,%26quot; or something similar.

Rain-X is silicone based, kind of like a wax for windshields. It'll make your glass super-smooth by filling in all the imperfections. It should take away the noise your wiper is making, and, the rain will roll right off of your windshield.
get a new stanly knife blade and check the screen surface for ''bits''....failing that try lifting up the blades and trying it,,,if it still makes a noise change the whole wiper unit inc lincages from a breakers yard car.
is it good quality baldes your using and not the cheap ones

the actuall arm that go onto the wiper spindles may be worn and causing the wipers no to make the correct contact with the windscreen

if you are replacing the whole wiper arm, the majority of cars only have a nut holding each one on. just undo the nut, take the arm off and put the new on in the same position as the old one.

Wiper blades stop randomally on windscreen? V Astra?
It sounds like a lose connection of some kind
Wiper blades stop randomally on windscreen? V Astra?
my daughter had this problem recently auto electrician charged 拢142 to put it right fit new motor said its common in astras its ok now maybe you need a new part not used
Perhaps the wiper wheel box is worn or the linkage bushes and it,s jamming up The second hand wiper motor could be weak just like your first one
Could it be worn spindles? Are they going out of sync?Put them up of the windscreen and switch them on.If they work normally then something in the drive is worn.If they dont its electrical.Hope this helps.
If they go all the way to and fro when they are running it is the contacts in the wiper motor box which are the trouble. Look on the box where a single lead comes out and remove the disc after marking it so you can put it back in the same position.

Clean the contacts if they are not too worn. Rotating the disc will alter where the wipers stop.

Otherwise you need to replace the whole wiper motor.
i had the same problem and did everything you have done......... i cured it by

My windshield wipers do not touch the windshield in all places especially at high speeds. What could it be?

I have a 2001 Chevy Malibu LS. I have changed the wiper blades several times with no positive results, so it is not the blades. I have cleaned the windshield, so there is nothing on it (ie. wax). The spot on the windshield that is missed is right where I need to look through and it is very dangerous driving this way. I do a lot of freeway driving. Any ideas on what could be the trouble?
My windshield wipers do not touch the windshield in all places especially at high speeds. What could it be?
try taking it to a mechanic.
My windshield wipers do not touch the windshield in all places especially at high speeds. What could it be?
You need new wiper arms..the springs in the ones you have are weak !!
the spring in the wipers are getting weak/ wore out/ and the wind is pushing the blades up off the glass.try buying new wiper arms.
Wiper arm springs are week or airflow is lifting wipers from window. Replace the wiper arms or purchase and install an air dam across lower part of winshield. This will help to deflect wind from the wipers and also a a custom look to your car. Can be purchased at most auto parts stores.
So the wiper come off the windshield when driving fast not with the wipes on high speed right?? If this is the case try bending the wiper arm slightly. Grab the wiper in the spot where it go to a flat bar.Gently push the tip of the arm not the blade inwards the windshield. Go slow it may take a couple of tries. If this fails to correct the problem you may need new wiper arms. The spring under the arm looses tension and lets the wipers float on the air flowing over the hood. Some people have had used a bug shield on the front of the hood to alter the air flow too. Last you could try the wiper with the air foils on them but must of the time they end up just being for show. Good luck hope I helped

    GM tech for 20 years
    i have a 99 malibu. if you don't use premium blades and the correct sizes you will get this situation. drivers side takes a 22%26quot; and passenger side takes a 19%26quot;

    Wiper Blade - Teflon - Driver's Side

    WIP

    602240 $13.49

    Wiper Blade - Teflon - Passenger's Side

    WIP

    601940 $12.49

if it's the arms you'll probably have to go to a dealer.

by the way how fast are you going? not much will stick to a windsheild aft 80-85 mph unless it has aerfoils on it to make it press against the surface.
If you have the appropriate blades the only other thing is the wiper arms. Not cheap..The springs that hold tension on the arms get tired.. Easy replacement, you can do it..If you live near Marlborough, Ma. stop in to Car Quest and ask Rob to put them on for you.Tell him Buzz sent you..No charge..accommodating kid of a guy...

How do I get a wiper arm off?

I just bought a Peugeot 406 `98 estate. Some previous idiot changed the wiper blades to opposite sides. There is a 22 inch %26amp; a 24 inch. I could tell right away that the longest should be on the driver`s side. I checked my theory out on another identical car.

Thing is the same idiot put a clip in the long one so I can`t just swap the blades.

I need to get the entire arm off in order to try to get the clip off.

I upped the bonnet %26amp; undid the securing nut, but the arm wouldn`t just lift up off the thread as I thought it would.

Is there some kind of secret to getting the damn thing off?

    I`m afraid to pry it.

    I need help, please.
How do I get a wiper arm off?
if you really think the arm need to come off...the nut pushes it onto a spline...its like a post with small grooves and as the nut is tightened it clamps the blade so it won't rotate.which when you think about it is wise..you prise it off with a screwdriver blade from the lower part...carefully...your fingers and the windscreen ar not far away....having said all that....l think they do not need taking off...just undo the wipers from the clips.at the end of the metal arm..usually they snap in place the plastic bit has a little spigot on it which need releasing.using a tiny screwdriver.then swap the blades...and cool off prior to starting...if you get angry with cars..they bite back..lol..read the manual before starting to check you are right....just suppose you are not..eating words is no fun...
How do I get a wiper arm off?
just try and get a small screw driver under neath and gently lever it up off the splines
it should pull off without taking the wiper arm off, look for U shaped plastic clip and pull it outwards
you need to pry it off, the spindle that the arm is attached to is knurled,it has cogs like a gear around the face of it,the arm has the same things. When thee arm is pushed onto the spindle the %26quot;gears%26quot; slide between each other.
after the securing nut, the other people are pretty much right, it fits into grooves...a screwdriver on the undernieth of it will help, but also, an old body shop trick is to bend the wiper back a little bit, to help relieve the pressure, then pull and wiggle it free.
Here's a trick when you don't have a tool called a %26quot;puller%26quot; to get tapered splined shafts apart: Put the nut back on, but BE SURE it's backed off several turns. The reason is that we want to protect the threads on the shaft. Now, GENTLY hit the nut squarely with a hammer while pulling the wiper arm toard you. This tapping will usually do the trick - hit the area with a lubricant (WD40 here in the states). I had to do EXACTLY the same thing with my Citroen CX (yes, there are about 50 of them in the USA) in order to get it off to restore it.

    Good luck...remember: Gently!
Go to a safari park and let the monkeys do it.
As every one has aleady said the reason it will not budge is that it is on splines and will need some gentle pursuading off being careful not touch the bottom off the windscreen.

Do I need to buy the most expensive windshield wiper blades or can I get away with the cheapest?

I live in Las Vegas. It rarely rains, but when it does it pours. I have lived in Las Vegas for 5 years and have never had to add windshield wiper fluid, when I get an oil change they top it off. The rubber part came off of the passenger side last month. I haven't had to use my windshield wipers since then.
Do I need to buy the most expensive windshield wiper blades or can I get away with the cheapest?
I would get medium priced ones as the sun and heat there will dry them out in 6 months.
Do I need to buy the most expensive windshield wiper blades or can I get away with the cheapest?
in your case, you can probably get away with the cheap ones.

but with a cheap price comes a cheap construction. find yourself wiper blades that are not the most expensive but not the cheapest.
make sure they are the right size and that you wipe the new wiper blade with an alcohol pad before putting them on your car. this will help keep them from rotting. the blades i buy are like 6 bucks each and theyre just as good as the 35 dollar ones!
As long as you get the right measurement for your car, it doesn't matter if you spent $5.00 or $20.00.

  • Windshield Wiper Blades Stopped Working - 1999 Honda Civic Hatchback?

The windshield wipers on my 1999 civic stopped working out of the blue. I tried changing the fuse and still nothing. I'm not sure if it's the wiper motor either because when I turn my wipers on I hear the motor going - but my blades stay still. Any ideas ??
Windshield Wiper Blades Stopped Working - 1999 Honda Civic Hatchback?
It is possible that they need to be tightened down. There is a bolt where the wiper arm meets the motor. Take it off and look inside and make sure that the groves did not get stripped. If they are you may need a new wiper arm.

Does anyone know if Citroen have changed the size of the front wiper blades?

The original ones had the passenger side wiper slightly longer than the drivers side - yet when I went to get replacement blades for my 07 Reg I was told that the only ones now listed for my car were of identical length
Does anyone know if Citroen have changed the size of the front wiper blades?
Are you asking about the Citroen C4 as the blades i have listed are the sizes as follows:

C4 +coupe Passenger blade 28 inch Driver side 24 inch

This Information is from my Bosch parts catalogue to which i get some of my stock from, Valeo also recommend the same sizes.

I bet the dealer that put the wipers on came up with that lame excuse because they were out of stock of the 28 inch blade.

If you want to double check your wiper size visit this site:

Does anyone know how much it would cost to replace a cracked front windshield?

I Drive a 99' VW Jetta (New body style) and I cracked my windshield when I was changing my wiper blades I need to replace it but I have no Idea how much something like that could run
Does anyone know how much it would cost to replace a cracked front windshield?
    $100-$150
Does anyone know how much it would cost to replace a cracked front windshield?
around 300$,dealer more expensive.go to body shop and use not vw part will be cheaper
It depend on the windshild and if your insurance will cover it that is if you have insurance that covers it. we got ours fixed estimated around 250 to 300 but since we had insurance cost us nothing.

good luck make sure you get qoutes from more then one place and see if they match prices. and sometimes going to a specialist is cheaper then a dealer.
You can buy one for about 100$ (mine for my Kia Sephia cost me 112$). A tube of glue costs about 10, and a couple hours of hard work and broken glass all over the place. Call Triumph auto glass, they are good and cheap.
if you go to glass.net you can get a price qoute from a repair shop in your area. It my cost some where around $275-300
Call you insurance company first. You may be covered. In some states, it is state law that companies cover cracked windshields.
shop around my friend.all glass is the same just find the best deal...
before you buy anything, call your insurance company and see if you have glass coverage. not all winshields cost the same. also beware of the shops that come to your door to do replacements, especially in cold weather. in shop repairs at an established auto glass shop are recomended., and they usually have a good rate for non insured drivers.

Buy them at Auto Zone or some place like that. Most places will come out and actually install them for you. If you already bought them, take them over to ine of those stores and ask them to help you.
How do I change my 1999 ford f150 wiper blades?
if you go to advance or auto zone and buy them, they,ll change them for you, they have a release on the end of them that you squeeze together, and that releases them,i usually let them change them out,,its nice not to have to do certain things once in a while, good luck.

    2000 Nissan Xterra maintenance question?

I have a 2000 Nissan Xterra with 110K miles, this is my primary vehicle. I would like to know what maintenance I should do other than the regular maintenance. I regularly change oil, oil filter, rotate tires, allign wheels, top all fluids, change wiper blades, check break pads, etc. Should I plan for any engine or transmission maintenance to keep it running well.
    2000 Nissan Xterra maintenance question?
Change Differential/Third Member Fluid, Check CV Boots for Damage, Replace if Needed. Change Transmission Fluid %26amp; Filter.
    2000 Nissan Xterra maintenance question?
Since I have the same model year, my book shows I should have my timing chain/belt replaced at 110K.

  • How much should it cost to have an oil change, tire rotation, and new wiper blades for a 2004 6-cyl. Subaru?

They also gave me a free car wash. Maybe I'm just out of step, but $123 seems kinda high.
How much should it cost to have an oil change, tire rotation, and new wiper blades for a 2004 6-cyl. Subaru?
well I own 3 pennzoil quick lubes and with exception with the car wash I can tell you exactly what you would have paid. Oil change with any oil except synthetic $30.95. Tire rotation $14.95. Wiper blades (we use Rain-X brand or for more we have Bosch Icons) $19.99 for the pair. $65.89+$3.96tax= $69.85 total. Yes I would say you paid way too much since I know that other than the dealer I am the most expensive quick lube in my town.
How much should it cost to have an oil change, tire rotation, and new wiper blades for a 2004 6-cyl. Subaru?
Oil change no more than $30 maybe up to $50 if it was synthetic, tire rotation is $20 pretty much anywhere you go, wiper blades no more than $10 each, so ya you might have gotten ripped off a little, nothing to write home about.

Also was it a good car wash with a wax job? if so then thats a fair trade off for me, the auto car wash places around here cost $20 for the full ride.
Even most dealers will charge $20-25 for oil, $10-15 for rotation and $20 for wipers installed. I think the car wash cost you about $60. I'd do more than a little complaining if I were you.

The GM dealer I go to is $20 for oil change %26amp; $10 for rotation.

How do I change j hook type car windshield wiper blades?

Please be specific. I'm stupid with this kind of stuff.
How do I change j hook type car windshield wiper blades?
I'm going to call it a U for explanation sake. Just inside the open end of the U should be a small tab attached to the wiper. bend it away from the rubber part of the wiper and slide it out of the U or J at the same time. the new onee shold just click into place. You can look at the new one to see if you see the tab. also there should be directions with the new one.
How do I change j hook type car windshield wiper blades?
Lift the wiper arm off windshield. Turn blade on arm so it forms a %26quot;T%26quot; then pull down on blade. To install just reverse.
if ur as bad as u say id go to any shop 4 about 5 bucks let them do it
Just go to the parts store. Buy the blades, all of them will install them for free on your car.
There should be a tab you have to depress. Turn the wiper like they said to form a T and slid it off the stud the J hook clips onto.

The new ones should just click on. Or take it to the autoparts store you purcheced them from and they'll put them on and even show you what they had to do to install or remove them so you'll know in the future.

Should I change the entire windshield wiper blades or just the refills?

I am a very DIY sort of guy, and I am very cheap, too. I like the idea of keeping my windshield wiper blades and just changing the rubber refill. However, I can never find them in stores, and I don't know anyone who has ever done this.

Are there any strong reasons against changing the refills?

Most things I have read say that changing the refills is a pain. Why is this? I dont mind taking an extra 10 minutes to save $10.

where can I buy the refills?

I am not particularly worried about my wipers leaving perfectly clear glass behind. I just need to change my current wipers, which hardly do anything.
Should I change the entire windshield wiper blades or just the refills?
if the refill falls out like they sometimes do you can damage or scratch the windshield

avearge replacement of a wisdshield 250

    is it worth it

refills also only last 1 year or less so next year you replace them again and spent more

being cheap is not always saving you money

like another answer said wal-mart. tou might spend a couple more bucks but they will last 2-3 times longer

    also, picture if you will

you put on the refills and your in the rain and one slips out of the holder or falls out and you end up in an accident, and total your car? is that 10 dollars gonna come and save you? buy you a new car?pay for the insurance hikes?

when it comes to safety on a car, is it worth the 10 bucks?
Should I change the entire windshield wiper blades or just the refills?
blades are better than refills and its not an extra ten minutes/P I A
go to walmart and buy the ANCO brand, they are cheap and easy to change. you will prob spend 10 bucks for the 2 of them and 8 bucks for the refills.
My usual practice is to buy the refills once, then buy new blades the next time, and then the cycle repeats. This has worked for me pretty well for the last 30 years or so.

How often do you change your wiper blades???

Just becasue its winter I'm going to ask the guys at my dealership next time they change my oil to change the wiper blades.

I usually don't drive my car in the winter, but my dads SUV, I've been using in the winter... my younger brother who just got his license is starting to claim it as his own, driving it alllll the time.

    So for work I take my car and the hwy isnt bad, just city I hate to drive my car w/ the salt and all :%26lt;

I've had the car for only 8months, my brothers car is two years old he hasn't changed his yet.

So back to the question : How often do you change your wiper blades?

    Thanks
How often do you change your wiper blades???
typically when the wiper blades are not clearing the windshield properly and leaving a streaky mess instead of nice clean windshields !!!
How often do you change your wiper blades???
I change mine every 2nd year, I live in Australia %26amp; the heat has a bad effect on the blades, why every 2nd year? because it doesn't rain much here, also every so often I pull the blades from the windshield as the sun tends to make the rubber stick to the screen %26amp; bits of rubber come off whenever I use the wipers, so by slowly pulling them from the windshield they tend not to stick when operated.
I usually change my wipers at the beginning of Winter.
not too often as long as they are cleaning good.i use winter blades all the time.it seems like i have better luck with them.

Does my car need new wiper blades?

I've had my car 2 and a half years now and never changed my wiper blades (or really thought about my wipers at all). Recently, I've noticed when I switch my wipers on (usually more noticeable in a light drizzle) that instead of clearing the water off completely like normal, I'm left with smearyness. It's not dirt smears... but more of a watermark... a wet watermark. Sorry, probably not making much sense! But kinda like on a shower door after you've just been in... the way the water sometimes 'puddles' on a vertical surface.

I'm assuming this means I need new wiper blades as I can't think what else it can be. I understand you can buy these from Halfords and are apparently easy to fit (although once saw quite a knowledgeable looking man ask for assistance in halfords to fit his...) - could some one let me know how I'm meant to go about changing them? Or how I can tell if they need changing... or is the fact that they're not actually wiping enough....?!

    FYI: it's a citroen c3 and I'm pretty car-dumb...!
Does my car need new wiper blades?
2 1/2 year old wipers. Yes, replace them. You should replace them once a year.

    ADDITIONAL DETAILS %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;

Wiper blades are very easy to replace. They are all installed the same way. The link below has a video and written instructions that should help you do it yourself.

    http://www.ehow.com/video_107_replace-wi鈥?/a>
Does my car need new wiper blades?
First off, try cleaning them properly. Get a cloth and a bowl of hot soapy water and wipe well.

Mine get horrid parked under trees all the time!!

IF that fails, go to Halfords, and get them fitted - very cheap!
yes, please get new ones. call the dealership.
Sounds like they do need a change!

Halfords is a good stop - will cost you between 9-16 pounds

And for 拢3.99 theyll fit them for you!

If any streaks are left or the rubber looks perished they need changing.
Sounds like you need new blades. If you go to Halfords, someone there will help you fit them.
Please describe what a knowledgeable looking man looks like. That might have been me!
it would be a good thing to change them anyway - hubby is an auto tech - says you can also try an alcohol wipe and run it along the blades - this will take off any oily stuff thrown up form the roads. if not better - than buy new ones. if you hae an autozone - they might put them on for you - or stand there and talk you thru it. good luck -
    1) Clean the blades like previous people said.

    2) Clean the windshield, and apply a water repellent treatment to the glass. Best known product is rainx, but there are plenty of products now and they all should generally work well.

    3) Replace the blades if you are still not happy.

I cannot stress how much a water repellent treatment will help your wet driving vision.
Well, that I know of, if your wipers are leaving smears across the windscreen then it seems that you have a build up of gunk on your wipers. Your best bet before buying new wiper blades is to place vinegar on a clean cloth and wipe down the blade, this should do the trick if not then consider buying new blades

    Hope this Helps
You only need new blades if they are starting to split at the ends. What you describe is grease in the form of traffic film. It is tenacious stuff. You need to go over the windscreen with a very strong solution of washing up liquid. About a 50:50 mix with warm water. Also wipe the blades themselves with the solution. If you do a thorough job the screen should wipe clean with no smearing. Add a good windscreen wash detergent to the washer container to keep it ok.

Incidentally, I had problems with smearing due to a rubbish wash additive. I changed it to Wickes own make and it was fine. Carplan is another good make.
Yes you do... and it's a very common problem. Just ask the person that sells the new wiper blades to help you through your first time, I'm sure they would be glad to help.
Replace your windshield wiper blades. Change them once a year or sooner. Go to AutoZone, Pep Boys, or any other auto mechanics store and buy them for about $5.00 a piece. They are not expensive and they clip in so any person, mechanically inclined or not, can replace them.
Its great that your car went 2 and a half years without changing your wiper blades. It does sound like you need to change them, but only if the water streaks bother you lots. I klnow they would bother me.

Department stores like Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire (and Halford's?) usually have a whole aisle dedicated to wiper blades. There are many makes, models and styles for each car. But don't get discouraged:

For your car there will be about 3 to 5 different blades depending on performance. These blades will also fit other citroen cars.

In the aisle, there's usually a book listing your make and model. If you look up %26quot;Citroen%26quot; then 20XX%26quot; then %26quot;C3%26quot; you will get a listing of those 3 to 5 wiper blades. You'll have to remember the product codes, because that's how they're sorted in the aisle.

If you're confused yet, you can certainly ask a sales associate for assistance.

Make sure both blades are included. Sometimes you'll have to buy the right and left seperately.

You can also buy just the blades or whole wipers. I like buying wipers, they are easier to install.

Check your car's owner's manual. It should have instructions on changing the wiper blades. If not, have at her. The wipers are attached with some sort of metal clip. They are fastened using friction and downward presure on the window.

Bend the wiper blade arm upwards, it should pop up 90 degrees from the window for you to change it. Detach the old one, and attach the new one. Use gloves if your delicate, they sometimes need some elbow grease.

    There you have it!

though, you might just want to avoid this whole ordeal and find some wiper blade silicone. It will be in the wiper aisle, kind of an oil that will make the blades supple again. just apply the oil with a cloth or your fingers to the blade. But for the cost of that stuff, you could get brand spanking new wiper blades.

I don't know how popular Citroen's are in Britain - there's none in Canada. You may need to go to the dealership to get your blades.
the rubber on the wipers, take a alcohol pad and clean the rubber.
Sorry, if YOU can't answer this question you do not deserve to hold a license!
Try Cleaning them with an alcohol wipe. If that does not work then i suggest new ones.

What might be the problem :

only one wiper is moving over the screen (when put out one of the wind screen the other one starts to move ), when try to use both of them both get stuck and dont move an inch ?

i have changed both windshield wiper blades and motor and installed a new battery.
Only one wiper is moving over the screen, when try to use both of them both get stuck and dont move an inch ?
Look at the linkage. Something's worn/stuck.
Only one wiper is moving over the screen, when try to use both of them both get stuck and dont move an inch ?
from the wiper motor to the passenger side wiper there is a bar that contols the passenger wiper. that ber has probably fallen off and is binding in the space it sits in. you can get to it by looking in the space just in front of the windshield and behind the hood. There should be a plastic or metal cover(depeding on the year make and model) that can be removed to access it

    good luck

What maintenance items should I change on my car before a long trip?

I'm changing my wiper blades but I just wanted to know if any one has any opinion on what I should change on my vehicle before going on a long trip.
What maintenance items should I change on my car before a long trip?
Oil change, Coolant Check, Windshield wiper fluids, Tire pressure, tire tread depth, spare tire pressure (60 PSI!). Check battery, hoses, belts, and check for leaks. Make sure your tire pressure is set to a good amount, if your tire pressure is low, it will not be able to carry the amount of load your car is going to be holding. A long trip sounds like a lot of items, make sure your tires are able to hold that amount of load.
What maintenance items should I change on my car before a long trip?
water, oil and check your tyre's for rips and the tyre depth
Take it to a place like auto zone and have them check your

    1. alternator

    2. battery

    3. wiper blade

    4. check engine light.

It is also good if you havn't had your oil changed lately or are close to your 3000 miles to do this.

Then check your air filter to see if its dirty, if it is replace it and you should also replace your pcv valve. Can also check your wires and plugs.
check oil. washer fluid, air filter, tire pressure, power steering, transmition fluid, break fluid, Anti freeze. and gas should check all those and maybe others for a long trip. to see if it was low or need to be replaced
I would check the Transmission Fluid level, many people do not check this for some reason.
If you keep good maintenance up on your car then there is really very little to do. Just a good look over and fluid check will be fine. You can change oil if the miles you are traveling will exceed the next oil change. Changing wiper blades is a good idea.If you have any doubts go to a mechanic and tell him what you what to do. Have fun !

Removing the old blades (and the metal strips) is difficult, not to mention installing the new blades. Isn't there a simple way to do this?
How do you change (remove old and insert new) wiper blades on a 2000 Honda Accord?
the blades are connected on a %26quot;u%26quot; shaped arm at the end. there is a squeese clip under the u part. you just squeeze it in and push toward the the wiper mount base and ut will slide off. reverse this untill it clicks when installing the new one. ps auto zone will come out and show you how to do it for free.

  • Why do my windshield wipers on my car always make noise?

It seems every time I put on my wipers, they make noise. Even after changing the wiper blades. Is it what I am using to clean my windshield?

When it rains real hard or consistantly I dont get the noise, just when it is drizzling or when I get road wash from other cars, little bits of rain or water.

I've noticed with new cars they never make noise, even when the windshield is completely dry. How do I get that?
Why do my windshield wipers on my car always make noise?
The noise is caused by the friction of the rubber against the glass, therefore when there is more water for lubrication, there is less friction and therefore less noise.

On the issue of newer cars not making the noise even with little or no water, that has to do with the fact that their windshield glass is new and smooth. With the smooth glass, the small amount of water is spread evenly across the glass, providing even lubrication. With an older windshield, there are scratches and knicks in the glass, giving the water a place to go and therefore not providing as much lubrication. When there is enough water (heavy rain, etc), the lubrication is there, and the noise stops.

The best chance of stopping this is to get a new windshield. However, as that is likely not a viable option, you can try the same method that one would use to remove scratches and smooth out their paint job...polish and wax.

Also, check to make sure that the arms that move your wipers aren't bent in any way, causing them to be misaligned. Good luck.
Why do my windshield wipers on my car always make noise?
try using your washer, make sure it has water in it :)
cause your are using your wipers too much. if its just drizzling then you dont need to turn them on full speed. try rain-x !! best stuff. as long as the car is moving the rain just beads off the windshield.
ive have this problem with my bronco, but since i live in the desert it only rains alittle so it always happens, i found out the the springs holding it down are too tight or something and pushing to hard against windsheild, i dont know how to adjust them but when it does rain really hard it dont make the noise before of all the water.
Try using some rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab and cleaning the wipers with that.
Try triple edge wipers. They've never made noise for me or any car I've installed them on. They're a little More expensive than say An-co wipers but they have a lifetime warranty with them as well. They are silicone impregnated and that makes the water run off the windshield like rain X And helps keep them from chattering
    I agree with Sarah

When should you change your car wiper blades?

every six months. I do mine on the time changes. Spring and fall. In the summer the sun will tend to harden the rubber. In the winter the ice and snow can rip the blades. If you wait too long and dont notice that they are ripped they can scratch your windshield. So for around $20 (for a good pair) it is cheaper to replcae them before you have a problem. Just my opinion.
When should you change your car wiper blades?
when it streaks the window really badly, when the rubber edge looks torn
When should you change your car wiper blades?
when you can't see when it's raining
when they aren't wiping your windshield completely clean. I do mine a lot more often then some people cause I wear mine out more cause I like my windshield super clean haha... just get some new ones when the ones you have aren't doing what you want them to anymore.
Just my opinion- Once a year, before the rainy season starts where you live.

Unless they start to tear, or streak the windshield. Or if they start to come off... It will scratch your windshield then, so hurry!
When they start to streak. When that happens all depends on the quality of the blade and how you use them. If you use them with a dirty windshield then they will wear out faster. If you keep your windshield clean they will last longer.
Take out the windshield so dont bother of thoes D** wiper blades...

I have a 1995 Ford Windstar GL. I am trying to replace the rear wiper blade and I found the right one but?

its becoming a pain in the butt to put on. It didnt have one on before, so I can not use that for an example. Anyone ever change on on a vehicle like mine? I know this sounds stupid but its driving me nuts. Thanks for any information!
I have a 1995 Ford Windstar GL. I am trying to replace the rear wiper blade and I found the right one but?
All wiper blades have typically one or two ways to mount depending on the style mount present @ the end of the wiper arm. 1st.- is where the flat bar of the arm folds around into a %26quot;U%26quot; shaped hook. In the crook of the hook @ the blade will be a plastic clip that is attached to the blade. The clip will have an %26quot;ear%26quot; that needs to be pushed/pried away from the outside of the arm while sliding the wiper blade off the arm. 2nd.- Is if the end of the wiper arm has a %26quot;pin%26quot; sticking out the end of it that the blade pivots on. The pin will have a recessed groove in it(won't be visible till blade is removed) that a spring on the wiper blade catches on to secure itself to the arm. Pick the blade %26amp; arm up off of the glass and using a small flat blade screw driver, keys or some other tool push straight down on the spring @ the pivot pin. While doing this wiggle the blade side to side while pulling it away from the pin. With some effort should come right off.

    Hope this helps!!!!!

What are some BMW-approved wiper blades?

I want to change the wiper blades for my BMW 323i, but I am not sure which wiper blades are approved by BMW for use in their cars.
What are some BMW-approved wiper blades?
Go to a BMW dealer they will have BMW wiper blades.

Even though any brand at all will work. And 1/2 the price.
What are some BMW-approved wiper blades?
It's a wiper blade for cris'sake it doesn't need to do anything special. Any silicone based blade will be top notch.

Rub your windshield with some Rain-X and you won't even need to use wiper blades since the water will whisk right off of the window without even turning the blades on. Turn them on and visibility is even better.
    go to wal-mart.

there are such thing as approved wiper.. duuuu
GO TO AUTO ZONE AND GET BOSCH WIPER BLADES THEY WORK REAL GOOD ......OR U CAN GO TO WAL MART AND GET 3 DOLLAR ONES WHICH WORK JUST AS WELL ...LOL
Go to the dealer. Last time I checked, they weren't that expensive. BTW: the right and left wiper are two different sizes.
Bosch wiper blades are much better and last longer than walmart $3 ones..Trust me I know since I have been through both types. The Bosch are still on my car and work so smooth!

How can I change my wiper blades?
Buy them from an auto parts store and they offer to install them for free. Why get dirty?
How can I change my wiper blades?
By unhooking the old ones and pushing in the new ones.

    It really is that simple.
umm, I hate to sound like an @#!, but dont. go to an auto parts store and ask them to do it.
My autozone always ask to install them when I buy them. If they break them they have to put on new ones. Why take the chance? They install batteries for free too.
I looked into your Owners Manual and I found the answers in section 5 page 57. They are as follows: Remove and replace a windshield wiper by following

    these steps:

    1. Put the ignition in the accessory position and turn

    the windshield wipers on.

    2. Stop the windshield wipers when they are in the

upright position by turning the key to the off position.

    3. Pull the windshield arm away from the windshield.

    4. Push the release lever on the windshield arm (A).

    5. Slide the assembly up and off the arm (B).

To attach a new windshield wiper arm do the following:

    1. Push the new wiper blade assembly onto the

arm of the windshield wiper. Make sure it snaps

    over the release button.

    2. Place the windshield wiper on the window.

    3. Turn the windshield wipers off.

    4. Turn the ignition off.

Windshield wiper blades should be inspected at least

twice a year for wear or cracking. See “Wiper Blade

Check” under Normal Maintenance Replacement Parts

on page 6-13 in the maintenance schedule for more

    information.

Replacement blades come in different types and are

removed in different ways. For the proper type and

length, see Normal Maintenance Replacement Parts

    on page 6-13.

I hope that helps you with this issue!

How do i change windshield wiper blades in a 1999 camry?

They can be difficult to change sometimes, even for a seasoned mechanic. Sometimes you can get the place where you buy them to install them for free if they're not too busy. Watch the online video on %26quot;winter car care%26quot; (or similar title) to see how it's done in general or the %26quot;wiper replace video%26quot; below.

They can be trickey sometimes especially in winter when the blades are very cold and stuck to the mechanism...a tip - go to auto zone, buy them there and they will put them on for free for you...also oil change joints will do it too.....just ask.......

How do I change windsheild wiper blades on a 1999 buick Lesabre?

It depends on which type of blades you have. But either way it is easiest if you turn the key forward to on position (not start). Then turn your blades on and when they reach the uppermost position turn your key off. Your blades should stop at that point. Then there should be a clip on the underside of the blade where it goes onto the post. push up on that clip and the blade should release. I recommend Rain-X brand blades for a replacement I have used all kinds of blades and Rain-X are the easiest to install and seem to wipe the best. That is if you have a loop type arm. If you have a post end its a litle different but if youn buy the blades there will be an instruction on the box that they come in. Or you can buy them at a carquest or auto zone and they will put them on for free.

The instructions will tell you how or where to press in order to slide, separate %26amp; remove the on half with the wiper blade leaving the other half of the arm that is connected to the motor at the base. You need to observe the direction and how to reinsert this half - Before you pull off the old wiper, look closely at both ends bec they are different...one has notch. Inside there is a metal strip, one goes on each side and you will find this white plastic device to hold the wiper in place as you slide one end through tracks until it snaps into the notch. What type of windshield wiper blades does a 2005 Chevy Cobalt use and where can I buy them?

I bought a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt in that year, and I have not changed the wiper blades since. The blades seem to be wearing out (i.e. - They frequently fail to get about 15% of the water off of the areas they traverse), and I want to replace them. I don%26#039;t know anything about windshield wiper blades. First of all, what type of blade does my car use? What is its designation? Secondly, from which stores can I cheaply buy decent brand replacements? Thanks.|||The factory uses a special type of wiper blade on the cobalt cars. You do not need to replace the wiper blade unless its bent. You should stop by your local chevy dealers service dept. They can replace the wiper insert (rubber part) of the wiper blade and it will work like new again. This will also cost less than replaceing the wiper blade with a aftermarket blade that will not work as well or clean as well.Best of luck.|||You should be able to purchase wiper blades for just about anywhere. Walmart, KMart, Zellers, Canadian Tire(if you are in Canada), etc. The main concern you need to know is what lenght (inches) each blade is. Also most department stores have a reference book to check the blade lenght. Depending on how much you are willing to pay, the range is vast. I purchase the $5/blade cheepy ones and replace yearly. Some can cost much more and may need to be changed just as frequent. Your choice.|||You will probably have to buy two sizes of refill blades for that cobalt.

The blades are two different sizes, unfortunately, available at autozone.
